Garhwal Bhratri Mandal was established on 28th April 1928. That time it was the only social organization of Garhwalis in Mumbai. Today it has the pride of being representative organization of the Uttarakhandis in Mumbai, having over a thousand of life members from all walks of life.
The people who established this organization include S/Shri Govardhan Prasad (late), Master Pancham Singh (late), Veer Singh Rawat (late), Ishwaridutt Sharma (late) and Ghanshyamsingh Rawat (late).
The Mandal has been registered on 23rd April 1948 under Societies Act of 1860, Reg. No.1630 of 1948-49 and under Public Trust Act of 1950 (Bom. XXIX of 1950) on 17th December 1962, Reg. No. F - 1016 (Bom).
The Constitution, aims and objectives of Mandal are incorporated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association. The main purpose of the Mandal was to foster brotherhood, love and mutual cooperation amongst the Uttarakhandis residing in Mumbai, to help people at the time of natural calamities, to remove all sorts of bad social customs prevalent in Uttrakhand, to undertake literary, social, spiritual activities and to maintain the heritage and culture of Uttrakhand Himalayas by organizing cultural shows in Mumbai, to encourage studious youngsters by giving them scholarships and to honour them in public.
